World Cup of Darts stars beg ‘please help us’ as duo struggle for money | Other | Sport

One of the most celebrated teams at the current World Cup of Darts tournament have been left begging for help after making it through to the quarter-final stage. The charismatic Hong Kong duo of Lok Yin Lee and Man Lok Leung left Sweden stunned on Saturday with a deserved 8-4 win.

That followed convincing group wins over the USA and Bahrain, respectively. The duo are now eying a mouth-watering last-eight tie with Wales, with Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton expected to come through against the Philippines tonight. However, regardless of how far they go in Frankfurt, don’t expect to see either Lee or Leung on the PDC Tour anytime soon.

Speaking after their win Leung, 36, outlined why the pair can’t commit to playing at Q-School in early 2026. Sporting a flamboyant hairstyle, he said: “I’m not ready to pay for Q-School after (paying for) the World Cup.

“Because we have jobs in Hong Kong. It’s difficult for Asian players because the travel is so expensive.” Putting his hands together in a begging motion and laughing, he added: “So please help us.”

Lee, 24, reached the second round of the world championship in December and backed up his team-mate. He said: “Last time I was in Ally Pally I said it is difficult to get Asian people to play in Q-School

“Because you have to have the money. We are dreaming (of getting to Q-School). But without the money, well, you have nothing.”

Q-School events take place in Europe and the UK, meaning long-haul flights for Asian players to participate. Entry into the tournaments alone costs £475.

The pair may now find themselves being given a helping hand, however. After footage of their press conference went viral, a host of darts fans have backed the idea of a ‘whip round’ to help them fund their fight for a PDC Tour card.
