Wooden floors are usually easy to clean, but during the hot weather, they will stay dusty no matter how much you vacuum and mop your home. Dust tends to build up in British homes as our summers are very humid, which causes dust, pollen and other particles to become extremely sticky.
All wooden material also generates a lot of static electricity in the heat, so dust will keep coming into homes through windows and then clinging to the floor. However, the cleaning experts at Frontdoor have shared that it is easy to prevent dust from sticking to wood.
They said: “You might be surprised to learn that tea is an excellent natural wood floor cleaner.
“Black tea has been used for centuries to clean and polish hardwood floors because it cuts through the grime and dust and adds an extra sheen.”
It may sound bizarre, but black tea contains tannic acid, which means it can easily dissolve dust, pollen and any other dirt causing build up on your floors.
Black tea also absorbs moisture and static electricity to prevent any sticky dust from clinging to wooden surfaces.
Not only will black tea get rid of stubborn dust, but it will also act as a natural polisher to keep your floors looking shiny and spotless all summer.
How to make a homemade dust repellent for wooden floors
All you need to do is place three black teabags into a bowl of bucket and add hot water.
Let the teabags steep for 15 minutes, then once it is cool, you can use them to mop the floor. Alternatively, you can add the solution to a spray bottle, then spray it directly on the floor.
Spray bottles are available in the cleaning or gardening section of most supermarkets, but they can also be found in pound shops or hardware stores.
Use a microfiber cloth to wipe your floor, and then it should be sparkling clean and dust-free.
Make sure to wipe down ceiling fans, curtain blinds, windowsills or any high surfaces as dust will not settle on floors to keep your home cleaner this summer.
