A brutal thug, Delme Cheese, 25, launched a savage attack on a woman in Ebbw Vale in July, grabbing her by the throat and subjecting her to a barrage of punches and kicks. The victim was left feeling “violated” after he also tore at her clothing. The court heard how Cheese continued his assault, standing over the woman and hitting her until others at the scene intervened.
The woman sustained a cut to her cheek, facial swelling, back bruising and body marks. During a sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, it was revealed that Cheese refused to leave the scene, shouting abuse and threatening to “kick the door in” and “smash people’s heads”.
Upon arrival, police found the victim visibly distressed and upset, her face swollen and bleeding. Cheese was promptly handcuffed and arrested, but not before he threatened an officer, saying, “I’ll kick you in the mouth now, you little slag”.
Despite being restrained, Cheese continued to resist, kicking out and striking an officer in the leg, causing injury, reports Wales Online. Once in police custody, Cheese claimed that the victim had initiated the assault by swinging a vodka bottle at him.
Cheese, who has no fixed address, later pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assaulting an emergency worker.
The court was informed of his 10 previous convictions for various violent offences, including assaulting an emergency worker and attacking a woman at a Wetherspoons pub.
In his defence, it was stated that the defendant struggles with alcohol issues and is making efforts to tackle them. Judge Paul Hobson, during sentencing, remarked: “I’ve seen pictures of the victim and she looks like she has been beaten up, and that’s exactly what happened to her.”
Cheese was handed down a total sentence of 16 months in prison.
