A woman has shared her “honest review” after embarking on the “most expensive” train journey in the UK.
Isobel Lorna took to TikTok to document her trip on The Belmond British Pullman – a restored 1920s locomotive that travels on a variety of routes across the country taking in breathtaking scenery whilst treating travellers “like royalty”.
The passenger shared footage of herself stepping onto her carriage at London Victoria with her mum. She also filmed the experience for her social media fans.
In the short clip, she declared: “Inside the carriages is like stepping back in time.” Indeed, the Pullman prides itself on it’s “antique-style marquetry, vintage lighting and heritage upholstery” on board.
Showcasing the vintage crockery set out on their table, she continued: “We were sat in this beautiful coupe and we actually found out this was Winston Churchill’s favourite place to sit.”
The pair were served with a mouth-watering five-course meal during the six hour journey.
Isobel filmed herself digging into soup and sipping Champagne, adding: “We basically spent the whole day eating and drinking.”
But that’s not all – as Isobel went on to reveal passengers were also treated to a performance by The Spitfire Sisters – a 1940s-inspired vocal harmony group who made their way down the train’s carriages.
Isobel continued: “We briefly stopped in Dover to stretch our legs and we almost missed the train home.”
Thankfully, the mother-daughter duo made it just in time for dessert and a glass of rosé.
They seemed to absolutely love their experience, as Isobel gushed: “All of the food was so delicious.”
Offering a glimpse of her cheeseboard, she added: “I couldn’t believe it was made on the train and we were served by the lovely Thomas, who made our experience so special.”
Closing, Isobel revealed that just as they arrived back into London Victoria, she and her fellow passengers were presented with their own bouquet of flowers.
“I didn’t think we could be any more spoiled,” she praised as she disembarked.
Given that packages for two people – including a luxury meal – are being flogged at around £800, we’re glad the pair were treated like royalty!
While it’s definitely not cheap, it could be a great way to spend a special occasion.
The British Pullman travels year-round to a wide variety of destinations – including Kent, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Surrey, with it’s main departure station being London Victoria.
Whilst often pulled by a diesel engine, a steam engine is used on selected dates.
The train’s web site states: “Restored to their former glory, British Pullman’s carriages are as famous today as in the heyday of train travel. Whether you opt for a Sunday Lunch with flowing Champagne – as many of our guests do – there’s a journey for everyone.”
The ride also caters for immersive experiences in collaboration with Private Drama Events.
Belmod add: “One Way Ticket, our new Murder Mystery lunch, takes you to the fictional city of Arcadia for a moment of grandeur and a dash of adventure. Can you solve the mystery before it’s too late?”
