Woman reads from Kindle and physical book to see which is faster

Everybody loves a good book you simply can’t put down, but do you reckon you’d read faster with a physical copy of a book, or an E-reader?

One woman decided to put herself to the test by reading from her physical copy, and then her Kindle, both for an hour, to see which one she could read faster on. And she was “shocked” by the results.

Emily, who posts on social media as @bookmarkedbyemily, said that “everybody always claims you read so much faster on a Kindle as opposed to a physical book,” so she wanted to “take one for the team and test it out”.

She started off with the physical book, setting a timer for an hour as she read her copy of Daisy Haites by Jessa Hastings, the second book in the Magnolia Parks series.

Emily read with “no distractions” and managed to read 49 pages of her book in an hour. Then, it was time to see how she’d fare on the Kindle.

With an electronic version of the the same book, she picked up where she left off. She used her Kindle to see whether she’d read more or less in the same amount of time.

Emily shared that she felt like she was “reading at the exact same pace,” so she was “expecting the results to be very very close”.

“The only major difference was the fact I was able to tap to the next page as opposed to flipping pages in a physical book,” she said.

She was shocked by the results, however, as she managed to read 60 pages in an hour on her Kindle, which was 11 more than she managed in her physical copy.

“So yeah, I do read much faster on Kindle,” she admitted, wondering whether people had guessed correctly in the comments.

But, despite the fact that many are able to read on Kindle so much faster, many people defended physical books in the comments, saying there’s nothing like them.

Someone wrote: “No device can give me the joy and peace that a physical book brings to me. The feeling of holding a physical book before bed in a warm, cosy light with a blanket on my leg and rain sound is out of this world. Period”.

But others favoured their Kindle, sharing: “I make the margins superrrrr narrow on my Kindle so I can just read straight down without moving my eyes and it’s soooo much easier that way and I increase spacing so I don’t get on the wrong line”.

Another said: “Kindles are so good for being comfortable while reading! I love reading while lying on my side, and it’s hard to do with a paper book!”

And a fourth added: “Kindles are easier for me because I can adjust the font, and I don’t have space for books anymore. But I think that everyone should read how they want to read.”
