Woman outraged by shop owner's cheeky note left on windscreen of boyfriend's car

A woman was left fuming after a note was left on her boyfriend’s car scolding them for their parking.

She took to Reddit to ask for help explaining she lived on a road where there were few places to park so resorted to parking outside a parade of shops around the corner.

The woman explained she had parked there numerous times without issue but when her boyfriend passed his test and parked there, he returned to his car to find a note on the windscreen.

It read: “Hello, please could you be kind enough to refrain from parking on our drive during working hours 9am – 5pm Monday to Saturday.

“We need large vehicles to have access to the parking along with staff and we would hate for your vehicle to be damaged when loading and unloading.

“This driveway is private land and belongs to the shops, not council parking. We do hope you fully understand. Many thanks.”

The woman explained they had never parked blocking the roads and always left plenty of space for other vehicles to pass, adding she was unsure who actually owned the road.

She added that it seemed to be one particular shop owner who was taking issue with people living nearby using the car park as she had a sign in her window telling people not to, but said they had never parked outside her shop.

She added: “When I moved in I was never told anything about parking and wasn’t told you can’t park there.

“My neighbour in the flat to the right with the same landlord used to park there with no problems but he has recently moved out.

“Maybe the shop lady has assumed my boyfriend’s car is just a random person parking there rather than somebody from the flats above?

“He doesn’t live with me so he’s not parked there all the time, only when he’s visiting, which is on average two or three days a week.”

She explained she would be speaking to the woman who owned the shop, but asked for advice if she was not understanding.

Many followers were quick to respond, telling her that while it made sense for her to park there, legally the woman was in the right if the spaces belonged to the shops.

One said: “You know it’s not your land so go on the side of caution.

“It could be your landlord’s land, but if it’s not mentioned in the tenancy agreement you likely have no rights to it.”
