Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a woman was killed when the car she was driving got hit by a “large piece of metal debris” on I-95.
According to a preliminary report from troopers, the incident took place about 4:40 a.m. on Monday on Interstate 95 in Philadelphia.
Troopers identified the victim as 33-year-old Cara Panichelli of Philadelphia.
According to the report, Panichelli was driving a 2014 Subaru Impreza when it was struck by the object near the Columbus Boulevard exit.
The metal pierced the driver’s side windshield, troopers said, and hit Panichelli.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to call state police.
The fatal incident came one day after a tractor-trailer hauling gasoline flipped on an I-95 off-ramp in Philadelphia, triggering a fire that caused a portion of the major interstate to collapse over the weekend.
