Woman ‘grabbed and threatened’ in horror ‘kidnapping attempt’ near UK town park | UK | News

A woman was allegedly the victim of an attempted kidnapping in the early hours of Friday. The victim was walking along Central Park Way, Wigan, where she was grabbed and threatened, with the suspect attempting to force her to come with him.

The victim managed to break free and reach a place of safety, at which point the suspect fled the area. The incident happened between 6.05am and 6.20am on Friday (January 9) and has sparked a major police appeal. 

The suspect is described to be a white male, approximately 6ft 1in, wearing grey joggers, black trainers, a yellow hi-vis vest and a black beanie hat.

Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s Criminal Investigation Department are now carrying out enquiries and supporting the victim.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Partington, of GMP’s Wigan CID said: “Whilst we understand incidents of this nature are concerning, I want to reassure our communities that we take reports of this nature very seriously and the safety of the public is our top priority.

“Our officers are taking every measure and following multiple lines of enquiry to investigate the circumstances of this incident.

“We have extra patrols in place around the area and if you have any concerns, our officers are always more than happy to support.”

Officers are urging anyone with information to please come forward. This includes anyone who may have CCTV/dashcam footage, witnessed the incident itself, or can help officers identify the man involved.
