Woman claims it’s ‘disrespectful’ to wear certain clothing item in hotel lobby

During the summer, there’s a unique joy in starting your day with breakfast at the hotel and spending the rest of the time lounging by the pool in swimwear. You’re well-equipped with suncream, books for poolside reading, and your favourite summer scents, and there are no commitments to tie you down—the atmosphere is simply perfect.

However, one woman has expressed her irritation over a particular habit she observes in hotels.

A TikToker known as @fundsandfashion voiced her opinion that following a “dress code should be common sense,” expressing annoyance at those who stride through the hotel lobby clad only in their swimwear.

She vented: “Tell me why people think it’s acceptable to walk through the lobby of a hotel in their bathing suit and nothing else?”.

“Put on a damn shirt. Be respectful,” she insisted, criticising such behaviour as disrespectful.

Another woman challenged the dress code advocate, suggesting she pay less attention to what others wear during their leisure time.

She retorted: “Why are you so jealous of people walking in their bathing suits? Like you’ve never forgotten the towel when you went to the pool. Maybe focus on something else”.

The original poster replied: “Not jealous at all. It’s a matter of appropriateness and respect for surroundings and other people”.

In response, someone commented: “Well, some people love themselves and their body. The human body isn’t something to be ashamed of”.

One individual declared the hotel their “home away from home,” vowing to dress as they pleased on their way back to their room.

Yet, some concurred with the sentiment that swimwear and pyjamas should be off-limits in hotels, with one person asserting that many would never “understand this level of class”.

A TikTok user expressed frustration: “There’s dress codes to walk through hotels? I don’t think I’ve ever cared, not never once, what someone had on while I was walking through a hotel. I guess we draw the line at nude, but hey”.

The original poster responded: “Yes, I’ve even seen some hotels have signs that ask for you to have clothes on or a cover up when walking through the lobby.”

Naturally, if a hotel has specific attire requests, guests are expected to comply. But in the absence of such rules, guests typically feel free to wear what they wish.

In a recent incident, a woman alleged she was ejected from a Hilton hotel breakfast for her pyjama attire and instructed to change.

Saffron, known on TikTok as @saffronmariexx, displayed the controversial ensemble, which consisted of satin-like structured pyjamas paired with flip-flops. In a follow-up video, she shared that her hotel stay was meant for “self-care,” yet she was shocked to be denied entry to the breakfast buffet around 7:30am.

Saffron expressed her dismay, stating: “When I got there, I was told I was dressed inappropriately.”

She vehemently criticised the decision as “absolutely ridiculous” and confidently asserted that she looked “cuter than everyone there”.

The Hilton has been approached for comment.
