Jo Willis, 49, was about to enjoy the two-inch diameter egg when she spotted its extraordinary spherical shape.
The rarity of such an egg is astronomical, with a similar one fetching £420 at a Somerset auction just this March.
Mrs Willis, hailing from Bentley, exclaimed: “I thought: ‘Blimey, what is that?’
“Then it hit me how rare it is and I thought, ‘oh my god, I’ve just boiled it’.
“I was blown away by it, to be honest, as it’s so unique.
“Then I just sat there for a bit and pondered whether I should eat it or put it in the fridge.”
It’s believed that spherical eggs are more prevalent among cavity-nesting birds, as their shape helps keep them snug and warm.
Ms Willis has now stashed the egg in her fridge and plans to auction it off to support Cancer Research, MS Society, and Alzheimer’s Society.
With a personal fundraiser launched in April following the loss of two relatives and her spouse’s best mate, she’s hoping the egg will crack around £400.
Having already skydived for cancer research and raised over £1,000, Ms Willis is optimistic the unique egg will contribute significantly to her charitable efforts.
Reflecting on the discovery, she shared: “When I found this egg it felt like a sign.
“After all this, I felt I should be proactive and help raise money for charity.’
“I want to change something negative into something positive.
“Hopefully, because this egg has been boiled, it will go for a bit more because it’s been serviced.”
Ms Willis lost her aunt Penny last July, who tragically passed away just days after being diagnosed with stage four bowel cancer.
She recounted: “During her funeral, her son Martin took ill and paramedics took him to the hospital.
“He was also diagnosed with stage four cancer and passed away three days later.
“This just leaves, her daughter Rachel, who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis and my uncle Ivan, who has Alzheimer’s.
“Then on the day of Martin’s funeral, we received a phone call from my husband’s best friend.
“He told us that he had just been diagnosed with stage lung cancer and passed away 12 weeks later.”
