Woman baffled by 'council letter' after painting her front door pink

A woman shared on TikTok a note she says came from the council about her “offensive” pink front door.

Michelle Whitney, using the social media username Bubblebearsboutique, showed the letter in a video, saying her pink door upset people.

“Apparently my front door is offensive!” she exclaimed in her post. The letter seems to be from Lancashire County Council.

It starts with: “Dear residents, this letter is being sent to inform you of a routine inspection of your property at number [blurred out] Ormskirk, after a complaint has been issued regarding your front door, we have been made aware it is offensive to residents. The inspection will take place on the March 4 2024.”

The letter also says:”You do not need to be present for the inspection. Thank you for your cooperation on this matter.”

It looks like it’s signed by someone from the council. Michelle ends her video by showing her pastel pink door. It’s got a pretty pink and purple wreath and a matching doormat.

Her video has now been seen over 720k times and lots of people are talking about it.

One TikTok user commented: “How is it even a thing that you can contact the council and complain about how someone has decorated their house!? I want updates!”

Another joked: “I think it’s offensive that there’s not a lot of pink doors!”

Someone else added: “Offensive? No, that door looks stunning!”

The council made it clear that the letter was fake and they actually think the door is “rather fabulous”.

Michelle posted another video saying: “Part two to be continued… I think someone has it in for me or some sort of joke.”

She also shared: “Just an update after calling the council this morning, the lady was lovely and very reassuring.”

She explained: “I have added all the information at the end of the video to keep everyone updated. Thank you for the support. The council have said it seems very odd and that there is no restrictions on my property.

“They have told me not to worry and they do not inspect front doors. My gut is telling me someone has a real vendetta against the pink door!”

A Lancashire County Council spokesperson stated: “We are aware of a letter being circulated on social media claiming to be from Lancashire County Council following an alleged complaint about an Ormskirk resident’s front door. We can confirm that this letter is not genuine and we will not be carrying out an inspection at this property on the March 4 or any other date.

“This type of activity is not in the county council’s remit and the old branding that’s been used to create the letter is a dead giveaway. For the record, we do not agree that the door in question is offensive. In fact we think it’s rather fabulous.”
