Woman astounded by ‘game changing’ hack that prevents window condensation in entire home

Condensation in homes is a massive pain as it leaves households having to wipe away the moisture every morning, so it’s important to prevent it if possible.

While condensation is very common, in time this issue will cause damp, mould and mildew to your window frames causing damage and could be unsightly.

Wallpaper can peel, a musty smell can appear and a dampness to your walls will be evident.

Unsure of how to stop condensation coming back, one cleaning fan took to the Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips Facebook page anonymously to ask for advice.

They wrote: “I’ve wiped my windows so many times this morning and condensation keeps coming back. I don’t know what to do,”

The post received many comments suggesting the use of a range of different methods from using WD-40 and dish soap to using shaving foam and opening windows.

Carol Allan said: “Sounds silly but it works. Spray WD-40 on them as I got told and it does work.”

Kim Brand wrote: “A drop of dishwashing detergent on a wet cloth. I worked in a deli and it stopped the glass from fogging up.”

Rachel Simms claimed that shaving foam works. She said: “Rub shaving foam inside the window and it helps prevent steaming up, but you’ll still have damp in the air that needs dealing with.”

Shirley Beale advised: “Open the window, but leave on the latch so it’s only the tiniest bit open and it will work.”

Lorna Llewellyn instructed: “Open your windows a little bit. The air will dry them off.”

However, the most suggested recommendation was to use a dehumidifier, as this “guarantees” no more condensation.

Karen Harper wrote: “Dehumidifiers are brilliant. Mine is on all year and I empty it every two days. It guarantees no condensation all year round.”

Katie Hardy claimed: “Dehumidifiers work brilliantly for this. They are approximately 10 to 15p an hour. Well worth it to dry out the whole house.”

Michelle Freelove explained: “I’ve just bought a Meaco dehumidifier and can’t believe the difference already.

“Every winter we constantly have condensation on windows, now there’s none – game changer.

“It was £150 on Amazon. I’m in a one-bed flat, leave it on in the lounge and it does the whole flat, amazing.”
