By now, we all know it’s important to wear sunscreen every single time we go out into the sun. When you’re in the sun for extended periods of time while on holiday, it’s even more important to keep slathering it on, especially when you’ve been in water.
But when one woman accidentally burnt her whole skin so she asked TikTok for their best methods to get rid of sunburn as it was causing her pain.
The NHS states sunburn is hot and sore skin caused by too much sun. It may flake and peel after a few days. You can treat it yourself. It usually gets better within 7 days. Your skin may feel hot to the touch, sore, and painful. If your sunburn is severe, your skin may also blister.
They also share if your sunburn is very severe you should visit your doctor, who may be able to help cure it.
It’s important to buy enough suncream for the amount of time you’re going away, so you don’t have to purchase any abroad, as sometimes, the SPF will have been sitting on the shelf for too long and may have lost its factor strength, which is how many Brits abroad get burned.
Morgan posted on TikTok saying she needed some “unhinged” methods to get rid of the sunburn she experienced, saying she didn’t want advice like “use aloe vera,” but instead was looking for something “your grandma made you do when you were five”.
In the comments, someone wrote: “Noxzema works WONDERS apply as needed it helps with the pain and helps keep the skin hydrated”.
Another agreed saying their mum “keeps it year round in the fridge ready for the summer”.
One woman shared: “This sounds weird but the bath and body works Cinderella lotion. I don’t know why but anytime it use that after I get a sunburn it’s honestly gone the next day.”
Some people urged the woman to “go to the hospital” and get her sunburn seen to, because it looked so severe, saying “that’s sun poisoning”. A fair-skinned woman said they wouldn’t do anything for it, though, unless you’re “dehydrated or nauseated”.
A TikTok user penned: “Girl, I met my Hispanic mother-in-law for the first time, I was sunburned pregnant and SOOOOO sick. She only spoke Spanish and my husband had to explain to me she was going to ‘paint me with egg whites’.
“Omg it was the holy grail for the burn to stop and headache and nausea to end. Whip up some egg whites and rub them all over you. Sounds weird totally works.”
The NHS shares if you have sunburn, you may want to:
Get out of the sun as soon as possible
Cool your skin with a cool shower, bath or damp towel (take care not to let a baby or young child get too cold)
Apply aftersun cream or spray
Drink plenty of water to cool down and prevent dehydration
Take painkillers, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen for any pain
Cover sunburnt skin from direct sunlight until skin has fully healed
The NHS warns you shouldn’t do these things if you’re experiencing sunburn:
Do not use petroleum jelly on sunburnt skin
Do not put ice or ice packs on sunburnt skin
Do not pop any blisters
Do not scratch or try to remove peeling skin
Do not wear tight-fitting clothes over sunburnt skin
