Woman accused of hijacking own Uber ride after moaning driver 'too slow' on way to airport

A woman is accused of hijacking an Uber driver’s car because they were driving to the airport “too slow,” according to court documents.

Neusha Alexandra Afkami, 27, was arrested for allegedly stealing her driver’s car and then using their credit card without permission.

The Uber driver picked Afkami up from her hotel in Austin, Texas just before 12:30am on Sunday to take her to the airport.

According to the arrest affidavit, the driver claimed the woman appeared to be concerned about how long it would take to get to the airport.

She then allegedly grabbed the driver’s phone and threw it out the window, forcing the driver to stop and leave the car to recover the phone.

Afkami is then accused of stepping into the front seat and driving away on the 2016 Chevrolet Cruz – leaving her driver stranded on the side of the road.

Police located the stolen car abandoned outside a terminal of the airport and arrested the woman before she was able to board her flight.

The woman allegedly told officers she got into an argument with the driver about timings and told him: “I need to get to the airport so I’m going to take your car and drop it off at Southwest Airlines.”

She also claimed she felt she was being kidnapped but police noted she did not attempt to call 911 before allegedly taking over the car.

Afkami also stole the driver’s wallet and used a credit card to purchase almost $130 inside an airport store, the arrest affidavit claims.

The items bought with the card were found to be in the woman’s possession when she was arrested.

The woman was charged with unauthorised use of a motor vehicle and booked into the Travis County Jail.

Afkami, believed to be from California, is also facing charges of credit card abuse.
