A 24-year-old accused of pelting police with quarter sticks of dynamite ran from cameras and covered his face as he left a court appearance in Los Angeles.
William Rubio hid his head with a jacket as family members rushed him up the steps and down Temple Street. When asked by the Post why he attacked police, Rubio’s father replied “no comment.”
The suspect who is on electronic monitoring and house arrest later removed the garment from his face and walked towards a parking garage.
The alleged offender is accused of throwing fireworks at police officers and firefighters just before midnight on June 8th. When authorities caught up with Rubio he had 20 more in his backpack.
“These included eleven M-1000 quarter sticks. These quarter sticks are basically a half a stick of dynamite, these are lethal devices” tough on crime District Attorney Nathan Hochman said at the time of Rubio’s arrest.
Rubio is charged with two felony counts each of assault upon a peace officer and use of a destructive device to injure or destroy.

“This group wanted to commit crimes, they looked at the protests as a cover to commit a whole variety of crimes.” Hochman said.
The Summer riots decimated Downtown businesses for days as cop cars were burned and freeways blocked by violent protestors. Hochman and U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli have zeroed in on the biggest offenders including Rubio.
Before darting away and covering his face Rubio was in front of the judge wearing a black suit and pony tail. He wished the court a “Good Morning” before his hearing date was moved to April 8th.
Rubio was seen in the courtroom hallway joking around with friends and giving high fives before the proceedings started.
If convicted Rubio faces 8 years behind bars
