Paul Goldschmidt is an imperfect signing by the Yankees.

When it becomes official, Goldschmidt (who turns 39 in September) will be the second-oldest position player currently on a 40-man roster behind Arizona’s Carlos Santana (40 in April).

There were certainly signs of his body and production wearing down in the second half last year.

He also offers no positional flexibility beyond first base.
