Meghan Markle once revealed her secrets on how to write the most perfect calligraphy without making any mess. In an interview with Esquire, she also revealed how she picked up the hobby during handwriting classes in Catholic school.
Speaking to the media outlet in 2013, the Duchess of Sussex shared the trick to make her handwriting perfect. She said: “I would sit there with a little white tube sock on my hand so no hand oils got on the card…”. Passionate about her techniques, she further added: “I’m glad that in the land of no one seeming to appreciate a handwritten note anymore that I can try to keep that alive.”
It comes as Meghan Markle has also shown off her calligraphy skills on her Netflix show ‘With Love, Meghan’. The royal can be seen teaching her friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin how to write calligraphy labels.
The Duchess of Sussex taught calligraphy, gift-wrapping and book-binding at the Paper Source store in Beverly Hills from 2004 to 2005 when she was a jobbing actress trying to make ends meet.
In addition to her job at Paper Source, she also worked as a freelance calligrapher, famously writing the invitations for celebrities Robin Thicke and Paula Patton’s wedding in 2005.
Meghan wrote about her love of handwritten notes on her former lifestyle blog, The Tig, saying: “I think handwritten notes are a lost art form.
“When I booked my first [TV] pilot, my dad wrote me a letter that I still have. The idea of someone taking the time to put pen to paper is really special.”
Fan interest in Meghan’s handwriting comes as she recently penned a handwritten note to a podcaster who expressed concern about her authenticity in her Netflix show.
The Duchess of Sussex sent the letter to Amanda Hirsch, host of the ‘Not Skinny But Not Fat’ podcast, after Hirsch commented on social media that she was “scared” for the mother-of-two ahead of her show’s release.
“Dear Amanda, I heard you were feeling scared. Don’t be! This is the fun part — let’s enjoy it,” Meghan wrote in the note, which was signed “as ever, Meghan”.
The letter, written on Meghan’s official letterhead, is understood to be genuine and podcaster appeared to be shocked by Meghan’s personal response, sharing her reaction on Instagram. “Obviously framing this. Beyond shook. Beyond spiraling. Did I smell the paper? Yes,” Hirsch wrote, adding: “Meghan, you have a fan for life.”
