The verdict reached by a jury in the case surrounding Kanye West’s Malibu mansion could cost the rapper millions The Post has learned.
“This is a seven figure judgement,” plaintiff attorney Neama Rahmani told The Post minutes after the jury handed down the verdict in Downtown Los Angeles.
The lofty figure stems from the jury’s decision that West had committed “a labor code violation” against Tony Saxon, the handyman hired to work on his $57 million dollar mansion, Rahmani said.
That means West will have to pay all attorney fees and costs which Rahmani says will reach over seven figures. “I’m not cheap,” the attorney said.
Tony Saxon was awarded $140,000 from the Los Angeles jury because he was injured on the job. “It’s a mixed verdict” according to Rahmani. “There were wins for them and wins for us,” he said.
But the big win for Saxon are the compensatory damages related to the labor violation, the actual amount will be decided during a hearing in July.
Saxon, who went face-to-face with West in court and was grilled for hours by West’s attorney Andrew Cherkasky, is glad the ordeal is over.
“He was relieved. He was dragged through the mud. I don’t think he’s ecstatic. It’s not easy” said Rahmani.
The multi-day trial centered around Saxon’s tumultuous 2021 remodeling of the multi-million dollar beachfront home. Saxon alleged unpaid wages, unsafe working conditions, and wrongful termination after he was hired to manage, secure, and live in the property during its renovation. He also claims to have suffered a back injury during the renovations.
West and his now-wife Bianca Censori took the stand last week. Kanye was sullen in the witness box, at one point he appeared to fall asleep. He often answered he didn’t remember when asked about his actions regarding the beachfront property.
