The husband of Lady Gabriella Kingston has died at the age of 45. Thomas Kingston died suddenly according to a statement released by Buckingham Palace.
But who is Lady Kingston and what is her relationship to the King? Lady Kingston, 42, is the daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and is 56th in line to the throne. Prince Michael was Queen Elizabeth’s cousin.
Lady Kingston sometimes goes by Ella and was educated at Brown University in the United States as well as Linacre College, Oxford.
As a minor royal, Lady Kingston has to earn a living and works as a writer.
Despite dating British-American journalist Aatish Taseer for a period, after their relationship broke down she met Thomas Kingston, a Bristol University graduate and financier.
The pair announced their engagement in 2018 and married a year later. The ceremony took place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle and was attended by Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip.
The King is Lady Gabriella’s second cousin and he and the Queen sent her their “most heartfelt thoughts and prayers” following Mr Kingston’s death.
A statement released on behalf of Lady Gabriella Kingston, Mr Martin and Mrs Jill Kingston, Mrs Joanna Connolly and Mrs Emma Murray, said: “It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son and brother.
“Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”
