The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has resigned following criticism of his handling of a report into a prolific child abuser associated with the Church of England.
In his resignation statement he paid tribute to his wife Caroline and asked for prayers for her and him.
But who is his wife Caroline Eaton?
Caroline studied at the University of Cambridge in the mid-1970s where she met Justin Welby. The couple married in 1979 and later he went on to forge a successful career as an oil executive.
After her husband left his career to train to become a clergyman in Durham he and Caroline were living off savings. But despite their financial struggles Caroline supported her husband’s decision.
