We just may be witnessing a preview of the NFC Championship today.
This afternoon, Brock Purdy’s 4-0 San Francisco 49ers visit Sam Darnold’s 3-1 defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field for a high-profile Week 5 matchup.
The last time the elite NFC West clubs met, they were duking it out in the Divisional Round of the 2026 NFL playoffs. As fans may recall, Mike Macdonald’s club routed Kyle Shanahan’s squad 41-6 en route to their eventual title.
That might not be the case today, though.

Even though oddsmakers favor the Seahawks by three points, pundits believe San Francisco has a shot.
Sports Illustrated’s Jeremy Brener said “I think the Seahawks are going to struggle running the ball in this one, which is what leads to the loss…while Jaxon Smith-Njigba helps the Seahawks’ cause, the Niners have enough playmakers on offense to get it done.”
Keep an eye on this one- it’s the marquee matchup of the week.
