A popular winery in Napa Valley could soon be sold at public auction after foreclosure proceedings were initiated over a property tied to Signorello Estate Winery involving more than $37 million in debt.

Signorello finally reopened just two years ago after the devastating 2017 Atlas fire, and is now at risk of closing over millions in unpaid construction loans connected to the property, the Napa Valley Register reported.

Napa County Recorder’s Office records show the Silverado Trail property is scheduled for two trustee sales on Aug. 21.

One sale seeks to recover $30.9 million, while the other targets $6.8 million in unpaid construction loans dating to 2018, 2021, 2023 and 2024.

The foreclosure covers more than just the land, including the winery’s wine inventory, vineyards, buildings, trademarks and equipment.

The filings stem from American AgCredit loans taken out by borrowers Raymond Edward Signorello Jr., R.E.S. Inc. and Walrus Inc. after a seven-year effort to rebuild the winery following the devastating 2017 wildfires, the Press Democrat reported.

The October 2017 fires scorched more than 50,000 acres in Napa County and burned for more than 120 days. The blaze swept through the estate, taking with it the Signorello family home, hospitality center and winery. The buildings were one of nearly 800 structures destroyed, amazingly, the 35 acres of vineyards were spared.

The public auction sale is currently scheduled to take place August 21 at 1:30 PM outside the Napa County Superior Court.

However, it is unclear if the sale will actually happen, as it is not uncommon for these kinds of events to be postponed or canceled as the two sides work out other possible outcomes.

The sale is the latest challenge for the wine industry as a whole, amid changing views of alcohol among younger generations.

The number of American adults who say they consume alcohol has fallen to 54%, according to an August 2025 Gallup poll, a challenge the wine industry continues to navigate.

The Post reached out to the Signorello Estate Winery for further comment.
