Weeds will die at the root with 1 ‘magic’ non-toxic solution – not salt

Weeds can become a persistent nuisance in the damp conditions of early winter, threatening to overrun gardens throughout the Christmassy period and into the New Year.

Despite laborious efforts to uproot them, these garden invaders often re-emerge, as common solutions like white vinegar fail to reach the roots for effective elimination.

Keen environmentalist Lisa Bronner put forward an eco-friendly way to eradicate weeds without the need for harmful chemicals.

As the brains behind Going Green, Lisa divulged her foolproof method to remove weeds on her Facebook page.

Lisa penned: “Boiling water is an effective, non-toxic weed killer. Pour boiling water directly onto weeds that pop up through cracks and seams, gravel, or hard-to-reach places.”

She added: “Use more water on thicker stalks and less on the scrawny ones. Take care carrying the hot kettle and don’t splash your ankles.”

This straightforward technique uses boiling hot water to obliterate the plant cells upon contact, leading to a rapid deterioration of the weed, usually within an hour.

Equally important, the boiling water can seep deep enough to destroy the roots, making a resurgence less likely.

Gardeners are embracing this eco-friendly tactic that promises to target only the areas where the boiling water is poured.

Vigilance is advised when employing this technique, however, to prevent accidental scalding of the lawn or cherished blooms.

In the comments section, green-thumbed community members praised the effectiveness of using boiling hot water to kill weeds.

One said: “I tried this and it worked a treat!” Another added: “I do this! Works like magic on the driveway.”

Some hardy weeds may need repeated exposure to boiling hot water for the roots to be killed off.
