British tourists travelling to Spain in the coming days can expect intense heat, as weather maps indicate the country will be gripped by a sweltering heatwave. WXCharts weather maps show that areas around Seville will see the extreme conditions with the temperature soaring to 42C on Sunday (June 8). Temperatures of this level could throw British holidaymakers’ trips into disarray with an increased chance of sunburn and heatstroke.
The weather maps come as Spain witnessed unsettled weather conditions of rain and heavy winds leaving many holidaymakers stranded at the airport on Tuesday. Spain’s state meteorological agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning for coastal conditions in the region. The alert remains in effect until 9pm in Malaga, covering the Costa del Sol, Guadalhorce Valley, and Axarquia areas. Forecasters predict west and southwest winds reaching 50 to 60 km/h (force 7).
Spain is likely to face significant concerns as temperatures soar, having experienced water shortages in recent years due to prolonged heatwaves. The country has also struggled with wildfires, adding to the challenges posed by extreme weather.
The latest weather maps show that the worst-hit areas will be Seville and Cordoba in the south of Spain.
According to the maps, the hot conditions are likely to stay for a few more days, with temperature levels oscillating between 38-40C in most areas of the country.
Not only this, but the Iberian plume will also leave a major impact on Portugal, with several areas experiencing high temperatures of 39C and 40C, the weather maps have suggested.
This comes two years after Spain experienced its worst wildfire season on record, ranking as the second-worst in European Union history.
In May 2022, temperatures soared above 40C in parts of the country, prompting AEMET to warn of a heatwave of “extraordinary intensity.”
