Britons could get to bask in warm temperatures of 23C next week, with new weather maps suggests hotter weather is on its way after some chillier conditions in recent days.

The UK experienced its hottest start to May on record, after the mercury exceeded 29C in Kew Gardens, London. While temperatures are not expected to reach that height, the weather map by Netweather shows much of the UK will get to enjoy heat in the low 20s during the afternoon on May 16. Western areas look set to get the hottest weather. The north-west of England, around Manchester in particular, could see mercury hit a balmy 23C.

Areas of the Midlands, south coast and south west will see temperatures in the lower 20s, while London is expected to reach 21C.

Temperatures along England’s east coast, including Norfolk, Suffolk, Lincolnshire, East Yorkshire and Northumberland, will remain under 20C, according to the weather map.

Much of Scotland looks on course to see warm conditions.

Large parts of west and central Scotland look set to experience temperatures northwards of 20C.

Edinburgh and Glasgow will get to enjoy toasty peaks of 22C, while the mercury could rise to 23C in Invernesshire.

The mini-heatwave could also see parts of western Northern Ireland reach 23C. Belfast and Londonderry will experience warm climes of 21C and 22C respectively, with much of Northern Ireland set to enjoy temperatures in the 20s.

Many areas in Wales will experience something similar, while Wrexham is likely to see the warmest conditions (22C), according to the weather map.

Temperatures are expected to be cooler around some of Wales’ coastline, including Anglesey and Pembrokeshire.

The Met Office’s long-range forecast for 13-22 May says: “Much of this period is looking dry across most of the UK, with clear or sunny spells for many areas, as high pressure likely dominates the weather pattern across the UK.

“However, at the start of this period, thicker cloud with some rain or showers, which could be heavy and thundery, is likely to affect at least the southwest of the UK, with a chance that more of the UK gets affected on Tuesday.

“The end of this period may also be more unsettled, particularly towards the south or southwest, with rain or showers possible again. Winds will mostly be light with daytime temperatures likely to be slightly above normal overall, although there is a chance of some chilly nights in places.”
