Washing machines won’t smell with 1 simple cleaning tip

Keeping your washing machine clean can be tricky but it’s a job you shouldn’t be overlooking. Your washing machine is likely one of your most used appliances but it’s one you might not clean as often as you should.

Beko says your washing machine could develop a bad smell for a number of reasons. One reason is due to a build up of moisture. If your washing machine is not properly ventilated, moisture can build up, making mould and mildew grow, which can cause a damp smell. Not only this but over time, a build-up of residue from detergent and fabric softener can cause dirt in the drum of your washing machine. This can create an environment where bacteria can fester, which can lead to an unpleasant smell in your washing machine.

Another cause of a bad odour could be a clog in your washing machine’s pipes or drain, which can lead to stagnant water.

In The Wash says there’s one simple cleaning tip you shouldn’t miss out on.

It says: “Another area to check is around the rubber door seal – this traps a multitude of things, moisture, hair and possibly even bits of those accidentally-washed tissues!

“Mould can also grow here, so it is super important to clean this regularly – about once a week is ideal, just using a damp cloth.”

This quick and easy job could make a huge difference and it will only take you a couple of minutes each week.

It suggests using bathroom cleaner and a soft, spongy cloth to get into the fold in the rubber.

By following this simple tip, you can ensure your washing machine will stay fresh.

Don’t forget to regularly clean your machine which will help the appliance last longer and ensure your washing will always smell its best.
