Vogue editor Anna Wintour reveals what she really thinks about Meghan Markle

Anna Wintour previously shared her opinions on Meghan Markle, sticking up for her after she and Prince Harry made the decision to leave the Royal Family in 2020.

As a Vogue editor Ms Wintour of course had something to say about the wedding dress Meghan chose when she walked up the aisle of St George’s Chapel in Windsor on May 19 2018.

Her dress was designed by Clare Waight Keller for Givenchy, whom Meghan recently met for a swanky meal out in California almost six years after her big day.

The dress was simple and sleek, and did not feature any traditional detailing such as lace, beading or any other embellishments, making it stand out from other royal wedding dresses.

The American Vogue editor said Meghan looked “fantastic” in the “sophisticated” dress, and also spoke up for her as a member of the Royal Family.

In her web series Go Ask Anna the fashion legend said: “I read somewhere that there were members of the royal household that were confused and upset that she woke up so early, at 5am.

“She’s a normal California girl who gets up early and does yoga and meditates. She also sent a lot of text messages. I mean, what did they expect? That she was going to send messages via pigeon? I think she’s amazing.”

When discussing the Givenchy wedding gown, she said: “It was sophisticated, it was chic, it was grown-up. It was an English designer, albeit one who worked for a French house, which in a way was a message to the world: ‘Yes, I’m from somewhere else, but I belong’. I thought she looked fantastic.”

Last week Meghan launched her new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard, having revealed the company’s new Instagram page which already has over half a million followers.

It has not been confirmed exactly what the brand will encapsulate, although it is thought it will sell lifestyle and kitchen goods and products such as jams and marmalades.

American Riviera Orchard appears to take some inspiration from Meghan’s previous lifestyle blog The Tig, which ran for three years until she closed it in 2017, the same year Harry proposed.

One PR expert has explained what the Duchess of Sussex could do to relaunch herself back in the UK, as she is reportedly looking for new representation in Britain.

Megan Boyle, Head of Digital PR at TAL Agency, told Express.co.uk: “If I was Meghan’s PR, then these are the areas I would really lean into. Of course, it’s clear Meghan wants to stay away from TV and film, but there’s plenty more for her to work on.

“She’s already involved with a huge amount of charities and international causes – which is a key area to work on – especially as the spotlight looks more towards those with power, influence and money to make a difference in the world.”
