Vladimir Putin 'terrified witless' of uprising after he 'failed' to protect Russia

US defence agencies had previously warned the Russian leader about a potential attack, even providing specific details such as possible locations, including the concert hall, on their list of areas of concern.

Putin brushed off the “provocative statements” earlier this week, calling them “obvious blackmail and an attempt to intimidate, destabilize our country”.

Speaking to The Daily Star, Glees said: “The Americans told Russians on March 7 there was going to be an Islamist terror attack, probably at a pop concert.

“Just less than a week after his ‘landslide’ rigged election, the Crocus Hall attack shows Putin can’t do the one single thing any leader, dictator or democrat has to do: keep his people safe. He’s failed.”

The Moscow terror attack was called a “huge tragedy” by mayor Sergei Sobyanin, with a clean-up operation now happening to fix the damage to the Crocus Concert Hall which was set on fire by armed gunmen during the attack.

Five shooters in camouflage were reported to have shot at civilians trying to get away from the burning venue.

The Russian leader said authorities have detained a total of 11 people in the attack, which also injured scores of concertgoers and left the venue a smouldering ruin.

He called it “a bloody, barbaric terrorist act” and said Russian authorities captured the four suspected gunmen as they were trying to escape to Ukraine through a “window” prepared for them on the Ukrainian side of the border.

The attack, the deadliest Russia has experienced in years, is both a tragedy and a major embarrassment for Putin and his newly-reconfirmed government.

Some commentators on Russian social media questioned how authorities, who have relentlessly suppressed any opposition activities and muzzled independent media, failed to prevent the attack despite the US warnings.
