While summer may seem like an age away, families, couples, and friends will already be planning their summer getaways.

As the weather warms up, many opt to jet off for a beach getaway, whether that’s a UK staycation or heading to a coastal village in Europe or even further afield.

With this in mind, the experts at Planet Cruise have revealed which of the world’s lesser-known beaches are getting the most attention at the moment and are trending on social media.

Looking at data from Google Trends and TikTok, they found that the top trending beach destination of the year is the coastal village of Ksamil.

Located along the Albanian Riviera just south of Sarandë, Ksamil is part of the popular ‘Maldives of Europe’.

The Caribbean-style white sands make Ksamil Beach popular with both foreign and domestic tourists. There are also a number of other attractions in the area that make this a perfect destination for thrill-seekers, history buffs, and those just looking for a relaxing holiday.

The nearby Ksamil Islands are just a pedal-boat ride away and are within the boundaries of Butrint National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that is home to over 1,200 different animals and plants.

Within the boundaries of Butrint National Park, visitors can also find a number of archaeological sites, that provide valuable remains of the ancient civilisations that were located along this coast.

Visitors to Ksamil should also be sure to visit the Blue Eye in Muzinë, a stunningly blue natural spring. And for those looking for something less-busy, there are also a number of other beaches located in the areas around Ksamil.

Second on the list is Montenegro’s Budva, with its medieval Old Town, sun-soaked beaches, and lively nightlife. While third place went to the Greek island of Paros, known for its crystal blue seas and stunning beach.

While holidaymakers planning to remain in the UK should head to Folkestone Beach in Kent, which just made it onto the list at number 10.
