We all want to be warm and cosy this winter, but it’s no secret energy bills are expensive.
Many of us will throw on extra layers, or invest in heaters, to avoid putting the heating on this winter, but there may be an easier way to keep warm. According to Which?, you only need one simple item to stay toasty during the colder months.
The best part is it will only cost you 3p an hour to use. Over on TikTok @whichuk claimed heated throws are “having a moment” due to the fact they work so well and are cheap to run.
As well as being cosy and warm, the nifty item can also help to cut down your heating bills. In the video, the presenter says you can pick them up for “great value”, as some can be snapped up for as little as £55.
While it may not seem like a super reasonable price tag at first, you have to consider how much money it could save you in the long-run. They could really make a difference to your winter.
In the clip, she said: “They cost just 3p per hour to run on their highest heat setting. Meanwhile, heating your home costs around £1.68 per hour.
“So, if you have your heating on for eight hours, you’re paying around £13 a day. So this means if you were to use a £60 throw for three hours a day, instead of your central heating, it could theoretically pay for itself in less than two weeks.”
The video has been viewed hundreds of times since it’s been shared, and people were quick to comment too. They seem to have had different experiences with heated blankets, but some couldn’t praise them enough.
There was one slight snag though – many people didn’t think £55 was that cheap. There may be cheaper versions around if you look.
One person said: “Paid £30 for my blanket, 1p per hour to run.” Another wrote: “I love mine. Bought from a reputable supplier.”
A third added: “And never get up from the couch again.”
Some people weren’t convinced by the idea at all though, as one chimed in with: “I bought one and it broke.”
Meanwhile, someone else said: “£55 is a lot. I’d rather use a hot water bottle.”
