If it weren’t so redundant — so worn out — it would be remarkable.

In a shallow and often self-defeating effort to appear diverse in their hiring of on-camera, microphone-attached NFL and college broadcasters, the networks have, with few exceptions, demonstrated conspicuous, feckless and often comical tokenism and insulting sexism in hiring mostly female sideline reporters.

The requirements: must be female, attractive, shapely, on the young side — no one over 40 — and straight out of central casting.

Their ability to ask pertinent questions of head coaches and players or to address — or even recognize for viewers — significant issues is irrelevant. Knowledge of the subject matter — here and now football — is unimportant.
