US traditional behaviours that reveal 'obvious signs someone is an American'

You can spot an American in just a few seconds by analysing behaviours such as body language or facial expressions, according to users on the internet.

An anonymous social media user on Reddit asked people to share the “obvious signs” that someone is from the US.

Users quickly filled the comments section with examples of how Americans greet each other, tip, and even stand as clear signs they’re from across the pond.

Some people described them as being “too friendly,” while others made observations that they would “always tip” or “ask for ice in their water”.

Both people from the US and other countries commented on the Ask Reddit subreddit.

One person commented: “An Italian once told me that Americans can look very sure of themselves even when they’re going the wrong way.”

Another said: “If someone asks how far away something is, an American will tell how you long it takes to get there as opposed to a physical distance.”

“From what I’ve been told by European friends and travellers, our complete and utter lack of an indoor voice,” one user added.

One comment read: “According to the CIA – when training to be a spy – you have to unlearn how to lean. Americans tend to lean on things when standing still.”
