There was a familiar winner of the US Open mixed doubles title, with Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori retaining their title after the controversial revamp. Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud were their opponents in the final, with the runners-up having beaten Jessica Pegula and British No.1 Jack Draper in the last four.

While debates will rumble on about the validity of the new format, attention now switches towards the main draw, which is set to get underway on Sunday. Jannik Sinner is the defending men’s champion, but fears about the Italian’s fitness have grown in recent days, after he pulled out of Sunday’s Cincinnati Open final.

Stick around as Express Sport brings you all of the latest tennis news ahead of the US Open.
