Sainsbury’s has recalled one of its chocolate bars over fears it may be unsafe to eat. Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Belgian milk chocolate honeycomb pretzel may contain metal, according to a risk statement yesterday. It read the chocolate product “may contain pieces of metal, which makes it unsafe to eat.” This applies to the 150g chocolate bars with batch codes LIS9Sl22 and best before date end of April 2025. “Sainsbury’s is recalling the above product from stores due to the potential presence of metal fragments,” a message to customers read.

“If you have purchased the above product with the affected batch code, please do not consume this product and instead return it to any Sainsbury’s store for a refund. For any further information, please contact Sainsbury’s Careline team on 0800 636 262. No other Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference confectionery products have been affected by this issue. We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

The Food Standards Agency said: “Sainsbury’s is recalling the above product from stores due to the potential presence of metal fragments.

“If you have purchased the above product with the affected batch code please do not consume this product and instead return it to any Sainsbury’s store for a refund.”

It added: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food. In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued.

“This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.”

Other recalls active at the moment include:

  • Appletiser 6x250ml – may contain an elevated level of chlorate
  • Newcastle Brown 550ml – potential presence of glass fragments
  • Baxters Sliced Gherkins Crunchy and Sweet 540g – potential risk of mustard in the product which is not mentioned in the ingredient
  • Tower Air Fryer – A small number of units have been identified as having a potential manufacturing default that could cause the air fryer to overheat and pose a fire risk
