Ice cream products are being recalled and some customers warned “do not eat” after they were found to contain an ingredient not listed on the label.

Cheshire Farms is recalling batches of Caramelized Biscuit Ice Cream and Biscoff Ice Cream because due to the presence of hazelnuts.

The food could trigger allergic reactions in some of the one in 200 people and one in 50 children who are sensitive to tree nuts in the UK.

A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency told customers: “If you have bought the above products and have an allergy to nuts do not eat them.

“Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.”

Cheshire farm has also contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will inform its members about the recall.

The affected batch of Cheshire Farm Caramelized Biscuit Ice Cream has the batch code L24150 and a best before date of November 29, 2024.

And the affected batches of Cheshire Farm Biscoff Ice Cream have batch codes L23139 and L23261 and best before dates of November 19, 2024, and March 18, 2025.

Symptoms of an allergic reaction include a red rash, tingly or itchy feeling in the mouth and swelling of the lips, face or eyes.

Some people with allergies are only sensitive to one type of tree nut, which include almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts, cashew nuts and pecans.

Peanuts are classed as a legume in the same plant family as peas, beans and lentils.

Peanut and tree nut allergies are the most common known foods to cause serious anaphylaxis reactions.

Hazelnut allergies are also often the result of a secondary nut allergy linked to hay fever, which is caused by cross-reactivity.
