A seasoning product has been recalled from customers after it was found to contain peanuts which are not mentioned on the label. A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency warned this mean the product “is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to peanuts”.
One in 50 children in the UK are thought to suffer from a peanut allergy, although many outgrow it by the age of 10. Around one in 200 adults have a tree nut allergy. Symptoms can range from mild skin reactions to life-threatening anaphylaxis.
The recall was issued by Damasgate Wholesale for Sofra Potato Chips Seasoning.
It applies to 100g packs with all best before dates. The notice added: “If you have bought any of the above products and have an allergy to peanuts, do not eat it.
“Instead return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
Damasgate Wholesale issued a similar recall for Sofia Garlic Powder last month due to undeclared peanut.
That recall also affected 100g packs with all best before dates.
Sofra products are commonly sold by Middle Eastern grocery stores and online.
