Urgent cheese recall issued with ‘do not eat’ warning over listeria | UK | News

Packs of raclette cheese have been recalled over fears that they could cause food poisoning due to contamination with listeria bacteria. Infection can trigger symptoms such as a high temperature, muscle aches and pains, chills and vomiting.

In rare cases it can cause severe illness, particularly in vulnerable people include those aged over 65, pregnant women, infants, and people with weakened immune systems. A notice issued by the Food Standards Agency said the product may contain listeria monocytogenes.

It added: “Symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.

“However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.

“If you have bought this product do not eat it. Instead, return it to where it was purchased for a full refund.”

The recall applies to Le Superbe Raclette made by Castelli UK Ltd and sold in Tesco.

The affected 150g packs have a best before date of May 12, 2025. Raclette is a traditional Swiss cheese usually made from cow’s milk.

It is often served melted and scraped onto other foods such as potatoes, vegetables and cured meats.

Listeria outbreaks are rare but include recent incidents linked to salad leaves in pre-prepared sandwiches.

The UK Health Security Agency confirmed in March that it was investigating  five cases of listeria infection — including three deaths of infected people — thought to have been linked to desserts supplied to the NHS and care homes
