A nutjob New Yorker allegedly tried to stab a family member in their upstate home, but missed and fled — all while dressed in a cow costume.
Anthony Pappalau, 47, allegedly lunged at a male family member during a visit to their home in Rensselaerville on Saturday night.
When Pappalau failed to actually stab his relative, he allegedly resorted to smacking their leg with his car door while fleeing from the house, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple told local outlets.
Police said that Pappalau was dressed as a cow during the entire ordeal, and didn’t appear to have time for a costume change before he was collared.
Cops responded to the scene just after 7:30 p.m. The injured family member refused medical treatment and pointed police towards Pappalau, who was in the wind.
Pappalau made it out of town, but was detained by police in Rotterdam, New York — just 30 minutes outside of Waterford, New York, where he lives, according to authorities.
While his cow suit wasn’t visible in the mugshot, Pappalau still held his head high and stared down the barrel of the camera while pursing his lips.
It’s not immediately clear why Pappalau was wearing a cow costume in the first place, but Apple told The Times Union that authorities surmised the bizarre behavior was “to be expected from him.”
Pappalau was charged with second-degree attempted assault, second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree menacing, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He was previously arrested on charges for menacing by hate crime and aggravated harassment based on race or religion in 2020, according to the New York State Police Department’s blotter.
He was arraigned in Rensselaerville Town Court and released on Sunday.
