Upgrading your Fitbit just got cheaper thanks to a surprisingly good deal

I’ve reviewed many Fitbit trackers in my decade as a technology reviewer but the Fitbit Charge 6 has to be one of the best. It’s the latest slimline Fitbit tracker to be released, back in 2023, and right now it’s on sale from a surprising retailer for an even more surprising price.

You might expect Amazon, Currys or John Lewis to have the best price for the Charge 6, but I’ve actually found it cheaper with EE. Best of all, you don’t have to be an EE customer to get this price – the Fitbit Charge 6 is available to everyone for £89.99 in what the retailer says is a “limited time offer”.

This is an excellent £50 cheaper than the tracker’s £139.99 RRP, and I’d say that’s about fair for a device that is approaching two years old.

I reviewed the Charge 6 back at launch and gave it a glowing review for Express.co.uk. I still wear it when in-between various reviews I need to do of other fitness bands and smartwatches, and remain impressed by the number of features you get for the price.

There’s built-in GPS so you can track runs without taking your phone with you, with more than 40 exercise modes overall. It means you can log your steps automatically but then call up a hike, gym or even ski workout to help you categorise your exercise to view later in the Fitbit app.

You’ll also get decent heart rate monitoring and the ability to link via Bluetooth to view this live on compatible gym equipment. The tracker can also monitor your stress, if you actually want that to be quantified for you.

The battery is also excellent, always lasting me at least four days even when I’ve been using GPS to track runs.

And because Fitbit is now owned by Google, you also get Google Wallet for mobile payments, which works very well, and turn by turn navigation from Google Maps, which will be most handy for cyclists.

The Fitbit app will also show you what’s known as a daily readiness score. This number out of 100 is paired with advice tailored to your recent activity and sleep, and is quite a good marker of whether or not you should go for a hard run or chill out a bit more after yesterday’s workout.

You will also get a six month free trial of Fitbit Premium when you buy the Charge 6, which unlocks some extra data insights and access to video coaching. I personally think you can do without it.

If the Charge 6 is too much for your budget, you might also consider the Fitbit Inspire 3, which has many of the same functions as the Charge but in a smaller body. It lacks GPS but has longer battery life of up to ten days. It’s currently only £57 from EE.
