Underrated British D-Day film is not available on streaming – Here’s how to watch

The great thing about streaming nowadays is you can pretty much find any major movie or TV series to watch at the click of a button, even if you have to rent or buy it outside of a subscription. Yet occasionally, some films are totally unavailable on streaming in the UK.

Saving Private Ryan and The Longest Day have to be the most famous World War 2 D-Day movies that you can stream now, but there’s another that you cannot currently stream. The film in question is 1975’s Overlord, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Directed by Stuart Cooper, the black-and-white British war film follows a young British soldier around D-Day, as he considers his role in the conflict and his own premonitions of death.

Around 70 per cent of Overlord is live-action, newly shot footage filmed in just 10 days, while the rest is archival, including captured German film.

The Imperial War Museum and the Ministry of Defence played roles in the production, from consulting on costumes, props, and training actors to flying the last operational Lancaster bomber over Bristol. Overlord has 90 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and is currently only available to buy physically on DVD for £11.17 and Blu-ray for £16.19 from Amazon here.
