While most people wouldn’t think of Africa when imagining lush greenery, intricate Islamic architecture, or vast sandy dunes, one TikToker is certain you’re bound to mistake Nigeria for Bali, Turkey or Egypt.

Nigeria has begun to gain global recognition as a travel destination, though it is often denoted by its bustling cities and oil-rich economy, the West African destination boasts stunning natural beauty and architectural marvels that rival some of the world’s most celebrated destinations.

In a video, creator Abdul Wanders shared images of Nigeria that people might assume were taken some place else, and it had people astonished.

In the Tiktok video, he said: “I’m honestly blown away by how diverse Nigeria is. This trip opened my eyes to parts of the country I never imagined. It’s wild how one country can have so many different sides, yet it all fits together perfectly.

“Nigeria has so much more to offer than I expected, and I’m only beginning to see it all. There’s so much waiting to be discovered here, and I can’t wait to explore more.”

Bali is well known for its serene beaches with golden sands and swaying palm trees, however, Nigeria can give it a run for its money.

Nigeria’s coastal wonders, such as Tarkwa Bay Beach in Lagos and Ibeno Beach in Akwa Ibom, offer equally mesmerising views.

The calm waters are perfect for swimming, while the surrounding natural landscapes invite moments of tranquility and adventure alike.

The lush greenery of the Obudu Mountain Resort in Cross River State takes the tropical allure a step further.

Nicknamed the “African Bali,” this resort offers a cool, misty escape in the heart of Nigeria’s highlands. Cable cars glide above verdant hills, while the luxurious lodges blend seamlessly with nature, making it a must-visit for eco-tourism enthusiasts.

Nigeria’s architectural landscape is a stunning blend of history and modernity, often drawing comparisons to Turkey’s fascinating fusion of East and West.

The ancient Sukur Cultural Landscape in Adamawa State, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, features terraced hills and stone dwellings that reflect centuries of traditional craftsmanship, much like Turkey’s Cappadocia.

In urban centres like Abuja and Lagos, modern marvels such as the Abuja National Mosque mirror the grandeur of Istanbul’s mosques, while local markets brim with vibrant colours and intricate textiles reminiscent of Turkey’s bustling bazaars.

For those captivated by Egypt’s ancient charm, Nigeria offers its own glimpse into history with sites like the Nok Terracotta sculptures, which date back to 1000 BC.

Found in central Nigeria, these artefacts reveal a sophisticated civilisation that thrived in the region thousands of years ago.

The Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, holds spiritual significance similar to Egypt’s Nile temples. Nestled in a dense forest, the site is adorned with intricate carvings, shrines, and statues dedicated to the goddess Osun, showcasing a deeply rooted cultural heritage that has stood the test of time.

Nigeria’s growing tourism sector is bolstered by its warm and hospitable people, vibrant festivals, and world-class cuisine. From the spicy jollof rice to the energetic beats of Afrobeat music, every aspect of Nigerian culture leaves a lasting impression.

Travelers who venture beyond the headlines to explore Nigeria are often left in awe of its hidden treasures.

Whether you’re seeking natural beauty, architectural wonders, or rich history, Nigeria promises an unforgettable experience that truly blows people away.
