UK’s top coastal views revealed as Brits vote for their favourite seaside spots | UK | Travel

St Ives, Robin Hood’s Bay and Padstow are among the UK’s most cherished seaside locations, offering stunning views. A survey of 2,000 adults revealed that other favourite coastal spots include the South Downs with its expansive 100-mile stretch of picturesque vistas, and Weymouth’s charming Georgian seafront.

The top 30 list also features Pembrokeshire’s limestone cliff haven of Lydstep, Devon’s yachting hotspot Salcombe, and Berwick, a quaint seaside town in the North East. The study, conducted by Haven, discovered that when holidaying in the UK, 80 percent of respondents consider accommodation with a sea view important, while 35 percent deem it essential.

Simon Palethorpe, CEO at Haven, said: “You don’t need to go far from home to get picture postcard views and scenery. Our parks are on some of Britain’s most stunning beaches and coastlines making them a great base for exploring the local area and enjoying the seaside.

“There’s nothing better than starting and ending your day with a sunrise and sunset view over the sea – even more so when it’s on home soil. Brits are still so surprised by the breathtaking coastline we have in the UK.”

The research further revealed that the majority of participants value a coastal location when holidaying in the UK, with holidaymakers willing to travel an average of 159 miles from home for a seaside break.

A significant 85 percent would be prepared to pay a premium for such a view, with the maximum amount spent to secure a coastal view in the UK exceeding £550 for two people.

The primary reasons for being willing to pay more for a sea view were the sense of relaxation and escapism it provides, with findings showing that coastal living is beneficial for both mental and physical health.

Data from OnePoll.com revealed that over two thirds (69 percent) believe the coastal views in the UK can easily compete with those found overseas.

Additional motivations for holidaying domestically rather than abroad included avoiding airport stress and delays (44 percent), greater flexibility with dates and duration (24 percent), and the ability to bring pets along (22 percent).
