UK’s most colourful city with ‘street art everywhere you look’ | Travel News | Travel

The most colourful city in the UK is full of bright buildings and exciting street art, according to a new study. Berlew Design Studio, which is based in Nottingham, put photos of cities in the UK through their computer vision technology to see which ones have colours that stand out the most.

Then, the colour palette of each city was analysed based on its chromatic diversity, which is the variety and range of hues, and the vibrancy intensity. One city came out as having the widest range of vibrancy and hues, and that city was Bristol. The small city located in the southwest of England boasts a thriving arts scene. With two universities, it has held onto its young and cool identity throughout the years, proven further by the fact that it is quite literally the most colourful city in the country.

Lewis Wilks, creative director at Berlew, commented: “Travellers today are searching for unforgettable cityscapes that leave a lasting impression. Colour doesn’t just catch the eye.

“It shapes how we feel about a place. Whether it’s the expressive energy of Bristol or the dreamlike tones of Portmeirion, these places don’t just look beautiful; they offer atmosphere, emotion, and memory.”

It might not come as a surprise to many that Bristol has been named as the most colourful city in the UK when you are aware of the fact that it is Banksy’s hometown. The city has always been a hub for artists, and that is evident upon first glance.

The study listed the ten most colourful cities in the UK. They were revealed to be:

  1. Bristol
  2. Portmeirion
  3. Brighton
  4. Southend-on-Sea
  5. Whitby
  6. Notting Hill (London)
  7. Portree (Isle of Skye)
  8. Dartmouth
  9. Penzance
  10. Bath

For those visiting Bristol, there are both high-end and edgy neighbourhoods to check out, including Clifton, Bedminster and Redland.

There are plenty of sights to see in Bristol when you visit. One of them is Brunel’s SS Great Britain, a historic ship that is the top-rated thing to do in the city according to Tripadvisor users.

Other highly-rated things to do and see in the city include the Clifton Suspension Bridge, Cabot Tower, Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, We The Curious and Bristol Ferry Boats. For those wanting to explore the city’s colours and art, there are specially designed art tours of the city.
