UK’s best walk revealed with caves, coves and shipwrecks | UK | Travel

Everyone has a favourite walk, whether it’s a loop around the block, a trek up in the Peak District even just to your favourite pub.

But now consumer experts at Which? surveyed more than 1,000 of its members across the UK to give a definitive answer to which one is truly the best.

Rating  each walk on its scenery, places of interest en route, signage and waymarking, wildlife and several other factors, the experts used all the data to create a complete comprehensive ranking table.

Out of the hundreds of different routes it was a stunner in Cornwall that came out on top. The Lizard Peninsula Circuit is situated on the UK’s most southwesterly point around 10 miles south of Helston.

Being so deep into the Atlantic, and with its almost Mediterranean weather, the beautiful Cornish scenery is a place to blow away the cobwebs for a stroll, finishing it off with a dip in the crystal clear blue waters.

The walk itself spans a solid seven miles lasting around three hours and will take you from caves to coves that are littered with magical shipwrecks.

The Which? review added: “From the safe distance of the coastal path,  however, the pounding of waves on the ragged shoreline is exhilarating rather than terrifying.”

The circular route starts and ends in the village of Lizard before heading to Kynance Cove, a once-popular spot for the Victorian day-tripping elite but now offers a much more modern experience.

The guide added: “You can enjoy wrap-around sea views while you eat your sandwich or baked potato from the beach café.

“Visitors told us they appreciated the dramatic scenery, the abundance of wildflowers and the possibility of spotting a red-legged chough or bobbing seals and basking sharks in the tumbling waves.”

After Kynance Cove, you’ll head Southeast, straddling the coast all the way down to Lizard Point and back around the bay, transporting you to a place you’ll be hard-pressed to believe isn’t abroad.

The stunning scenery and diverse route all end up giving it a stellar rating of 87% ahead of the likes of The Needles in the Isle of White and the Buttermere Circuit in the Lake District.

Garnering hundreds of five-star Google Reviews, many happy ramblers swear by the route. A recent walker posted: “One of the most beautiful places in Cornwall, with stunning views and fewer crowds than Land’s End. It’s a must-visit if you’re in Cornwall.”

Another agreed: “I’ve been visiting when on holiday with my parents, our children & now grandchildren for over 70 years, a place you can never get fed up viewing any time of year,” one more walker posted: “So beautiful and unspoilt. Would recommend a visit. Breathtaking scenery.”
