As the festive season approaches, cities across the country have begun to open their infamous Christmas markets for visitors to enjoy. Now the UK’s consumer champion Which? has revealed the country’s best Christmas markets.
The selection of markets comes from Which?’s best cities survey, so it’s no surprise that one of the best festive markets is found in the city that’s dubbed as Britain’s prettiest.
York which was top of Conde Nast Traveller’s list of best places to visit in the UK. The city full of beautiful, cobbled streets and medieval walls is what makes it often recognised as the country’s prettiest city.
There are so many things to see and do in a city full of historic landmarks, from a world-famous ride which takes visitors around Viking-age York to The Shambles, a medieval street with beautiful overhanding buildings housing shops and boutiques.
And now, visitors get to experience one of the UK’s most walkable cities in its festive galore through a spectacular Christmas market, described as one of the best by Which? and “a great place to find gifts.”
York’s award-winning Christmas Market is open from November 14 to December 22 as part of the city’s Christmas festival.
The picturesque streets will be lined with 75 alpine chalets, where visitors will find a selection of traders selling local crafts, artisan products and seasonal treats, leaving visitors spoilt for choice.
The city’s Christmas market is also sustainability-focused, with some traders committing to ethical and eco-friendly practices and there even being a quiet period from 10 am – 12 pm to create “a welcoming and inclusive experience for everyone.”
Other Christmas markets mentioned by Which? are Liverpool’s free Christmas market, where visitors can enjoy 80s Christmas pop and fairground rides, open from November 16 to December 24.
According to Which? Bath hosts “one of the UK’s biggest and most established Christmas markets” with more than 200 chalets at the free event starting on November 26 and ending on December 15.
