If you think you’ve had the best Bangladeshi cuisine, you might want to reconsider and take a trip to the little seaside town of Alnwick. It was just awarded the best Bangladeshi cuisine in the UK.

Shen Khan won the award organised by Oceanic Awards against 8 other restaurants nominated for the award.

With a good rating of 4.7 on TripAdvisor, fans of the restaurant seem to all be saying the same thing, leaving comments such as ”tasty food” and ”friendly reception”.

Fans of the eatery can tuck into a range of dishes, including jalfrezi and tandoori chicken.

The hot spot was also crowned the best of its kind in the North East.

Curry houses around the country were awarded by region and city, but Sher Khan was awarded the best overall. The awards ceremony took place in Birmingham this week, and 2025 marks its 14th year.

Curry houses have become a staple of many British towns and cities. Locals in Alnwick have had excellent things to say about this local favourite.

One reviewer said: ”A real accidental find. Was staying at the Premier Inn up the road and drove into the village of Alnwick for something to eat . The place was quiet but it was a Sunday night. I ate upstairs in the restaurant and the 2 waiters were efficient and polite. The onion bhajis were obviously fresh and were crispy on the outside and unctuous on the inside. The bill was about £28 for starter, main and a large Kingfisher beer.”

Another fan of the restaurant added: ” DEFINITELY RECOMMEND! On entry, we were greeted with a warm, friendly welcome. Shown quickly to a nice table and asked for drinks and poppadoms. Staff are very friendly and chatty with a smile.”

The wide menu in this restaurant features all the classic, priced reasonably. Starters can be purchased for as little as £3.95, while mains average around £10.
