The wintry weather of January will continue as large amounts of snow is set to descend on Britain in the coming weeks.

Icy temperatures and flurries of snow are set to continue throughout the month. On January 24, a 398-mile wall of the white stuff is predicted to hit the UK, according to weather maps from WXCharts.

Starting at 12am, many regions up and down the country will see snowfall throughout the night.

Starting from Inverness in Scotland, the swathes of purple on weather maps from WXCharts show that the snow wall will reach down to Oxford, narrowly missing the capital.

At this time, the band will stretch across the west of Britain, covering the majority of Wales.

At midnight on January 24, England could see up to 1cm of snowfall per hour in the northeast, with lighter flurries further south. Wales and southern Scotland can expect up to 3cm of powder hourly, as hopes of waking up to snow on the ground remain high.

Northern Ireland will dodge the wall, remaining relatively dry. The east of England, including Edinburgh, Newcastle, and Norfolk, will see similar conditions, with the southwest covered in heavy rainfall.

Cornwall will see up to 0.6mm per hour, as Hampshire can expect more severe conditions with 5mm of rainfall per hour battering the county.

The Met Office predicts high pressure prevailing towards the end of the month, which will build from the south with generally settled conditions for many.

High pressure may initially dominate over the 24 until the end of the month, especially in the south, bringing quiet, grey, and cool conditions.

Northern parts are more likely to be unsettled but milder. This pattern will likely spread across the whole UK by the end of the period, leading to milder conditions with periods of rain and strong winds more widely.
