The UK is set to be hit by nearly 40C temperatures as a mini heatwave hits the country over two days later this month. Maps suggest that, on June 26, Britain will bask in peak readings, with Gloucester and parts of Oxfordshire and Hertfordshire to experience 39C, according to WXCharts. Maps suggests that residents will see 38C in surrounding areas, including across the East and West Midlands to the north, and London to the south east. The mercury in Kent will read 37C, as well as Surrey, forecasters predict.
Along the south coast, it looks to be slightly cooler, with 28C expected in the south west. Most of Wales, however, will see temperatures in the 30s, including as high as 35C, WXCharts says. 37C could be in store for East Anglia. Up north, towards Manchester, Brits could experience highs of 37C, and 30 around Liverpool. Yorkshire can also expect temperatures of over 30, with maps suggesting around 35C.
Things will begin to feel a bit more normal up towards Newcastle, at 28C, it is thought.
The following day, highs of 38C are predicted by WXCharts, in Lincolnshire.
The mercury is thought to reach 36C and 37C across the East Midlands more widely.
The West Country, south east, East Anglia, Manchester, Welsh borders, and Yorkshire are also set for temperatures higher than 30C that day.
On June 28, these will be contained to London and the south east, but other places in the east and Midlands can expect mid to late 20s.
The Met Office says in its forecast for June 17 to 26: “Temperatures will likely be above normal for the time of year and it could be hot at times in the southeast.
“In the north, probably more changeable, especially at first. Here, conditions are expected to be cloudier with some unsettled spells of weather at times, bringing some rain and perhaps strong winds.
“Temperatures are expected to be close to normal or slightly above.”
For between June 27 and July 11, experts add: “A good deal of dry weather across the UK at first, but becoming more changeable at the start of this period with an increasing likelihood of showers or some longer spells of rain.
“This pattern continues through early July with changeable conditions bringing a mix of fine and dry periods and some outbreak of rain or showers, which could be heavy and thundery at times. Temperatures are likely to be above average.”
