New weather maps show snow could hit almost all of the UK with huge swathes to be hammered by wintery weather.

On December 15, maps show that by 6am, snowfall will be seen over Scotland and into the north of England, with around 5cm of snow expected.

The Cairngorms National Park area will see the most snowfall, with over 10cm of snow predicted.

Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Sheffield and Gloucester will also see snowfall but not to the same extent as in the north of England and Scotland.

As far south as Essex and Kent will see snowfall as the colder weather strectches down to the south of England. In Wales and towards the west coast of England and Scotland, rain is expected.

By 12pm, snow looks to be more settled across the UK with Scotland again experiencing the highest snowfall.

In England, snow could reach around 3cm in the North East, Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Northampton and Oxford.

It comes after the Met Office issued weather warnings to parts of the UK as wintery conditions set in – currently, yellow warnings are in place for today and tomorrow.

The Met Office five day weather forecast warns conditions will turn “more unsettled in the coming days with heavy rain and strong winds at times, particularly into the weekend with gales possible.”

Into next week, weather looks to be still chilly with some blustery showers towards the beginning of the week.
