UK weather maps show 580 mile rain bomb hitting – 9 wettest cities | Weather | News

A huge 580-mile barrage of rainfall is set to hit the UK in just a few days’ time, marking a continuation of the unsettled and drizzly weather that has characterised June so far. A stretch of the country from the Scottish Highlands down to Portsmouth on the southern coast will experience an intense 24-hour burst of bad weather on Thursday, June 12, according to new weather maps.

UK weather forecasts from WXCharts show cities across the UK being hammered by up to 5mm of rain per hour from around 9am on Thursday, with heavy showers expected to continue throughout the day and into Friday morning. While the spell of disruptive weather will extend right across the country, it could hit Britain’s western coastline the worst, with cities including Glasgow, Carlisle, Lancaster, Liverpool and Aberystwyth receiving upwards of 3mm of rainfall, alongside Brighton, Manchester and Sheffield. It comes after a turbulent week of weather, with the first few days of the month jumping between sunshine and downpours and yellow weather warnings from the Met Office warning for thunderstorms on Saturday.

After setting in on Thursday morning, the rain bomb is forecast to reach its peak at around midday, battering great swathes of the UK with non-stop showers.

Eastern regions could escape the heavier downpours, however, with northeastern Scotland, including Inverness and Aberdeen, remaining largely dry alongside Newcastle and the far southeastern English coast.

Temperatures aren’t expected to drop considerably with the fresh period of unsettled weather, and are likely to hover around the UK seasonal average of up to 18C.

The Met Office also predicts the mercury to stay largely stable, with cooler air in northern cities, and warned of “changeable” conditions throughout the coming week, with breezy and rainy weather interspersed with sunny spells.

The Met Office weather forecast for Tuesday to Thursday says: “Remaining changeable with a mixture of sunshine, scattered showers and longer spells of rain.

“Breezy at times, and feeling cool in the north, but temperatures on the rise by midweek.”

The BBC Weather Monthly Outlook from Friday states: “Around the middle part of next week, a stronger high pressure ridge might shift over the UK bringing briefly very warm conditions, especially to the south and south-east.

“There is growing uncertainty beyond the middle of next week and towards next weekend. However, weather forecast models agree to some extent that slightly cooler and more changeable conditions will try and move in from the south-west.”
